40th anniversary weekend, South Shore is a favorite of ours. First time on Cape Sable Island, very beautiful. Cottage is perfect - clean and fully equipped. So private as well. Nova Scotia is our home and is as beautiful as any other place in Canada! Dinner at Charlotte Lane is Shelburne- Excellent!

What a beautiful and peaceful place to stay. We awoke to the sound of birds only- no other noise!! We had some fog. We explored the area and wished to have stayed longer. A little slice of Heaven!!! Immaculate, beautifully decorated cottage witht all the necessities. Kind and very friendly hosts (Nancy & PJ) Lots of time to relax, read, walk near the water, visit with the goats (Winston enjoyed them) and the beautiful water to enjoy our kayaking. Delightful place! I love the decor! I'm so glad I found you in the Doer's and Dreamers guidebook. (The inspiration to stay on Cape Island came from a book I read by Linda Greenlaw). We've spent two nights here now, Hoping to try some kayaking this A.M. before heading off towards Halifax. Weather's a bit rainly- Paul just took for a run. Oh, well! Our first night we had beautiful sunny weather and just plain relaxed with our surrondings. (We started out from Maine @ 4:30am) Yesterday we toured the island by car. Spent a little time at the Hawk Beach- another guest recommended and it was very nice. Visited Shelburne and did some hiking in Kejimakujek National park, Port Joli. Gail spotted a seal and Paul 3 deer. Hiking was perfect; overcast, not too warm. We did sample a seafood chowder from the local chowder house, it was very good! With gratitude I write this passage. Larry and I were led here after staying at the (name withheld) in Yarmouth for a few days- our view was of the dumpster in the parking lot. So, needless to say the view from the cottage is a slice of heaven. We have had a peaceful stay here. The serene water and lovely islands are a sight to behold. We had a beautiful time here. We enjoyed our canoe journey through the island, a MUST! We enjoyed grilling and eating on the cottage and taking a break from restaurants. In the early morning I would make a cup of Red Rose tea and read a delightful book provided to add to my discovery here. A wonderful place to relax, refresh and recuperate after all the busyness we left before. We have not explored or canoed as much as we hoped but have managed a taste of both. We had a clear full moon shining across the water and a really sunny day. The wonderful welcome and such peaceful surrondings have been just what we both needed more than we realized. Unfortunately we only stayed one night. The cottage was bright, cozy and very relaxing. We enjoyed some local seafood for dinner with Nova Scotia wine. A walk after dinner to explore the island was great and we were treated to a beautiful sunset. This was a beautiful place to stay prior to travelling to Halifax, so peaceful and quiet. Thank You. I decided to stay here on a whim while driving the Lighthouse Trail, and I'm so glad I did! The cottage is beautiful and so comfortable. The view is stunning- especially early in the morning with a cup of coffee and no noise except the birds singing. I will recommend to all my friends! John, England

It has been a wonderful week-end. Very relaxing. Our 2 boys ages 10 & 6 were very happy with our choice of accommodations. They enjoyed playing in the water, catching minnows and roasting marshmallows over the fire. The cabins are amazing and very comfortable. This is definitely a good place to go to get away from the city and do some birding. We will tell all our friends and family about Cape Sable Cottages. My family and I are planning our trip back already. The Kings, NS

We definitely loved this cottage and the experience we had here!! The milky way and the big dipper were spectacular. The crescent moon hung over the water @ 2:24am outside my bedroom doors!!! We ate mussels and clams and read the great books provided in the cottage. My kids visited the sheppe and 'stole' wi-fi from the generous owners. We found peace here and we appreciate the natural beauty and hospitality the property and the owners provided. many Thanks! KD, ME

This is our forth trip to Cape Sable Cottages, we just love this place. The peaceful feelings we get when we arrive. We have explored many areas on Cape Sable. Take time to explore this island. As soon as we arrived on Cape Sable Island we were 'hugged' by the fog and we found ourselves in a treasure. The quietness and peacefulness of this place are priceless. The night spent around the fire with the guitar was special and it will remain in our memories forever. Arrived @ 5pm to this lovely #5 cottage. tastefully decorated and all the necessities. Hosts were especially friendly and helpful. Waking here is serenely beautiful with only the sound of birds to lift our spirits and start our day. I've re-phrased the quote on the chair-throw:
"The kiss of the sun for pardon, The sonf of the birds for mirth, You're nearer to God at Cape Sable Cottages, Than any place on earth"

We were looking for a quiet getaway for Easter to a part of the province we hadn't yet explored - this place was perfect!!! Sun was shinning but very cold. The Hawk beach was spectacular!!! We spent some time exploring Shelburne- beautiful historic town. Loved our evenings playing board games and reading in front of the beautiful view. And now for the kid's opinion ..... I think it's a great place to sketch the scenery because it's so beautiful and quiet and the beaches are beautiful plus outside the cottage theres a big rock for climbing. The Priddles, NS
Toronto, Quebec, Gaspsie, Fundy Bay( wonderful) Cape Breton- Cabot Trial, Halifax, Lighthouse Route... and after 4500km, we finally "landed" at Cape Sable Cottages!! What a warm welcome and what a lovely "feeling-like-coming-home" stay. It's great to 'feel' the Atlantic Ocean when you live nearby the (German) Alps.

Thank you so much for the warm welcome and the lovely accommodations. The 18 yr old with us described the cottage as "Nicer than his house". We had a great 2 days on the beautiful Daniel's Head Beach and my shopping excursion into town was fun with the local shop keepers being very friendly and chatty. We missed out on a game of horseshoes tonight due to the weather, but our nightly fires provided lots of laughs and too many marshmallows! You have created a wonderful, warm, peaceful, relaxing spot and we wish you much success in your venture. I look forward to returning.

We've looked forward to this trip since we were first here in 2002. It was wonderful then and it is wonderful now. You have always made us feel like we're family (a loving family) and that is so important to us. The sunrises and sunsets are gorgeous, the scenery beautiful. We want to let you know what your island and cottages mean to us, but somehow words just cannot describe all of our feelings. So maybe this poem will give you an idea of our fond memories and deep feelings of Cape Sable Cottages~
We planned for 2 years to return to Cape Sable Island hoping everything would be the same,
Then after all the anticipation & waiting our departure day finally came.
Just as before, we were welcomed with warm greetings and open arms.
My oh my, how we have missed this Cape Island charm.
Thank you for the wonderful bonfires with the steamed mussels and all the hospitality,
And the perfect sunrises & sunsets that make for the most serene tranquility.
We were so happy to have Ginger wisit our cottage again,
But don't worry, we ignored her sad and pitiful looks and didn't dare let her in.
You have one of the most precious and special families,
And the memories of our sing-a-long will last for an eternity.
Thank you so much for all that you have done.
But most of all, thank you for the "friends" and "family" that you have become.

We came to Nova Scotia in celebration of the Surette Family Reunion of 2000 people (World Acadian Congress) and a long & rainy day we arrived late at night to Cape Sable and to the "Garden Cottage".
